Cambodia’s Southern Railway Line started its operation in providing transport service from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville Autonomous Port in 2012. In order to streamline transport efficiency as well as to improve the railroad transport network, Sihanoukville Autonomous Port has cooperated with Royal Railway Plc. to establish the railroad system and rail container yard within the port's premises so that the customers or cargo owners can transport general cargo and containerized cargo from Sihanoukville Autonomous Port to Phnom Penh and vice versa. In fact, the container throughput transported by rail was 56,947 TEUs in 2025 which indicates the growth rate of 80.65 % in comparison with the container throughput transported by rail in 2016 (10 years ago) that was 31,523 TEUs. For the first 3 months of 2026, the container throughput transported by rail increased 31.42 %, compared to the same period (the first 3 months of 2025).
